Project Objective
The specific objective of this project is to develop a facility that supports Employment and Learning Coordinators (ELCs) in conducting local resident skills surveys that aim to inform the local Neighbourhood Renewal Employment and Learning Strategy.
Each Neighbourhood Renewal Area will be responsible for identifying opportunities for resident involvement, resident support needs, opportunities for stakeholder involvement and local customisation of survey questionnaire and/or online service.
Wider NR objectives will be met in each NR area through:
- Greater understanding of and access to appropriate local employment and learning opportunities;
- Increased local economic and social activity;
- Development of local employment and learning infrastructure;
- Linking of residents to employment and lifelong learning opportunities; and
- Integration of local schools with the wider community
Benefits to the Community will include:
- Recognition of residents' skills
- Assisting community members to share skills and knowledge
- Assisting residents access employment and learning opportunities
- Informing training and jobs programs initiated in the area
- Development of greater opportunities for community involvement and interaction
- Development of the skills and self-esteem of a number of local residents in survey work
- Identifying skills and resources available for volunteering community participation.
- Attraction of organisations such as job network providers and learning providers.
Background
This project builds on and acknowledges the work of the Wendouree West Neighbourhood Renewal Area (www.wendoureewest.com), University of Ballarat and Eaglehawk Neighbourhood Renewal Area. With the assistance of the University of Ballarat these two Neighbourhood Renewal Areas have completed residents' skills surveys in their local area.
